Welcome Students!

In the next couple weeks, we will be reading a literary novel outside of class. I will be posting blog topics here, which will be open for discussions. You will be given homework assignments which will be posted here. The work submitted here should be edited, refined, and of literary value. You may email me if you have any questions.

Independent Reading Assignment for Winter Break

Over the break, you will be reading one of the following books:

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
The Road by Cormac McCarthy

I will be posting three assignments to my blog. You will be expected to respond to the topic on your own blog, and post comments to two other student’s blogs according to the student calendar.

This project will also help to prepare you for your timed-writing assignment upon your return from Winter Break.

*Blog Helpful Hints*

As we work throughout the week, we may encounter kinks we have not worked out yet. If you run into a problem, email me, or post a comment here, and I will do my best to address the issue.

Happy blogging!

Issue # 1: Enabling your blog to accept comments-
Click on Settings, then the Comments tab, then change "Comment Form Placement" to "Full Page." Click on "Save Settings" at the bottom of the page, and double check your Blog to make sure people can now add comments.

Assignment One- Due 12/14

First, you must create your blog. To start your blog, follow the slide share tutorial on how to create a blog on the left side of this page. Create your blog, and post a link to your blog as a comment here. Make sure to include your first initial and last name and your period number at the beginning of your comment.

The first comment to this post is an example of the comment you should leave when you are done with Assignment #1 in order to receive credit.

Assignment Two Due 1/17

Read the following discussion topic. You will create a TEAR paragraph in the form of a blog post for the discussion. Include three E and A couplets.

Make sure to post your first initial and last name, period number, and link to your  TEAR as a comment to this Assignment #2 blog (see first example in the comments).

Topic One: Select a primary character from your novel and write a well-organized essay in which you show how a character’s demise helps to illuminate the meaning of the work as a whole.

Assignment Three Due 1/24

1.     Choose a TEAR on the blog from a different student from assignment #2 that has not already received feedback.

2.     Take a look at the Blog Entry Rubric found here and decide what score you think they should receive.

3.     You will comment on the TEAR with the following:

A. Your initials and your period number.
B. The score they should receive.
C. One strength and one area of improvement that should be addressed.

4.     You will then post a comment to this assignment with your first initial, last name, and your period number. You will post the links to the comments you made. The first comment to this post is an example of what your post should look like.
